Michell Bearings is an established and trusted manufacturer of hydrodynamic bearings for horizontal and vertical shaft motor and generator applications.

We offer two product ranges for horizontal shaft motors and generators that are fixed ring lubricated and self-contained water cooled. Both product solutions can be designed to circulate oil cooling or forced oil lubrication via an external lubrication system.

Our Industrial Horizontal (IH) range covers shaft diameters from 280mm to 1000mm in both a journal only bearing, or in a thrust and journal combination. This bearing offers a higher capacity range covering a shaft diameter from 300mm to 500mm.

For vertical shaft motors, Michell Bearings has two vertical bearing product ranges, Advanced Vertical (AV) and Large Vertical (LV), depending on the shaft diameter of the machine and magnitude of the thrust loads involved.  The Vertical Series (V) is associated with journal only bearing solutions for vertical shaft applications.

Our vertical bearing designs are renowned for being compact and self-contained with no reliance on external oil systems. Oil cooling is achieved using water cooling via a heat exchanger mounted in the bearing oil sump. Air and fan cooling can also be provided for some applications depending on the operating specification.

For both horizontal and vertical shaft motor and generator applications, Michell Bearings has access to various bearing linings for the thrust and radial bearing elements ranging from white metal (or babbitt) to PTFE and PEEK depending on the requirements of the project.
