Michell Bearings becomes Cyber Essentials Plus Accredited

Posted: 3rd July 2023

Michell Bearings is proud to have become Cyber Essentials Plus accredited, a government backed certification that is critical for working with the defence industry.

What is Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials Plus is a cyber-security accreditation which demonstrates that an organisation can detect vulnerabilities when connecting to the internet. If a business is vulnerable to basic attacks, they may be targeted by cyber criminals.

The accreditation, which is issued yearly, gives customers and businesses peace of mind that safety measures are in place to protect their information.

Jeremy MacIver, Head of IT Operations for Michell Bearings’ parent company, the British Engines Group, said: “We place the upmost importance on the security of our IT infrastructure. We regularly test and review our controls to ensure that we have the most robust defence to a potential cyber-attack. Being a Cyber Essentials Plus company recognises this effort and is the industry leading accreditation”.

What are the requirements?
To be awarded the Cyber Essentials Plus certification, a business must pass a self-assessment questionnaire to demonstrate that key controls are in place, followed by a technical audit involving a vulnerability assessment, an internal scan and an on-site assessment.

Michell Bearings has been audited to the appropriate level of security, certifying that the business provides strong and secure cyber security practices.

Paul Walters, Commercial, Security and Export Controller at Michell Bearings, said: “This accreditation is critical when engaging with customers who are interested in using our bearings for Government contracts”.
